Kate Cotching: We Lost And We Won: June Exhibition

An exhibition of paintings and soft sculptures that highlight everyday struggles and achievements.

Exhibition Runs from Thursday 8th of June untill Saturday 1st of July.

In a sport obsessed society the exhibition playfully challenges the way we see victories, by acknowledging some of the most difficult and personally challenging activities people face.

The embroidered and heat moulded fabric sculptures were produced while undertaking the Artist In Residence program through Ashfield Council in Sydney 2015 and the works were first shown in Ararat Regional Gallery. Inspired by the self-professed, but otherwise unacknowledged accomplishments of the artist's friends and family, these sculptures de-construct the shape and notion of the trophy. By embracing these individual stories of generosity, adventure and strength while producing the works, the sculptures seemed to develop of their own accord.

The seven paintings on show depict altered sporting trophies alongside everyday objects, which have been discarded and given to a second-hand store, representing the difficulties and frustrations that come with day to day life.

Artist Statement

I could speak about my struggle at school due to my dyspraxia, I could speak also about my social awkwardness or the drama surrounding me and my relatives, but in the end, none of these are important now, because I just enjoy what I became.

I'm Nicolas, French artist, with a fine art degree and multiple experiences in art. My dreams always lead me to travel far away from my home, now that I have left France to visit Australia, my dreams have turned into my home.

My artwork is a mix of dreams and fantasy, but mostly because I am after all a  story teller, I like to link each character to a meaning of my existence, my own mind becoming their hive. Once I need them to tell a story they become the actors.

My main character is "Gostpas" the "dream walker" blue eyes shimmer and through his journey, make you travel across my strange world.

Exhibition closing Uplifted by Kerryn Sylvia

Thanks to all those that attended the exhibition closing on Saturday June 3rd. 2017 It was great to discuss the work with everyone and see something develop in such an intensive amount of time. The fragile balance of nature and humanity tinged with irony and unexpected humour. Thanks so much to Gallery F for supporting me throughout this experience.

Kerryn is in residence throughout the length of the exhibition making new work that builds on ideas related to climate change, solastalgia and balance. Her work in progress area will slowly transform into a material based installation which will support the original work and culminate in an official closing to be held on Saturday June 3rd from 12pm-2pm.
