Please Joins us at Gallery F for some creative workshops in January 2019. Creative Explorations is designed to inform, stimulate and share while artists are working and demonstrating knowledge and skills.

Introduction to Felting Workshops
by Lyn McDonald

at Gallery F, 31-33 Deakin Ave, Mildura

Saturday 21 July,  9.30 -12.30pm 
Saturday 28 July,  9.30 -12.30pm

Cost of Workshops including materials and a kit
of basic felting needs is $70 for two sessions.
These workshops are not open to just one session.
Maximum of 8 participants.

Session 1
Introduction to felting process for beginners includes making pre-felts and creating a square or rectangle felt for a bag, cushion cover or an Art piece.

Session 2
Nuno-Felting wool onto a length of silk.
Silk will be supplied in white or earthy eco-dyed colours and both natural coloured fleeces and coloured wool tops are available.

those “waiting” times.
New students:
Don’t bring a thing for the first session and we will discuss what you need to make your own individual piece while practicing some stitches.
Returning studentsbring your completed projects and/ or your new ones.

Shibori dyeing workshop by Ann Hayward

The wonderful Ann Hayward will be holding an introduction to the Ancient Japanese  method of dyeing fabrics called Shibori using indigo dye.
Shibori is a method of resist indigo dyeing that includes clamping, wrapping, stitching and folding.

You will need to supply:
  • ·      Natural fabrics, some silk will be available to purchase at $10 per metre
  • ·      Threads – white crochet cotton (cebelia 20); ball of white twine; elastic bands
  • ·      Needles – darning needles (equivalent of birch sizes 1-5 ideal); straw needles size 8 or finer
  • ·      Coloured tailor’s chalk     *    notebook and pen if desired
  • ·      Protective rubber gloves       *   old towel    *   marbles or a variety of beads
  • ·      Scissors for fabric and a quick-unpick
  • ·      Protective clothes – the dye is permanent
  • ·      Your lunch   *   water bottle

TIP: Op shops are great sources of white cotton tops just waiting to be given new life.

TEXTILE PLAY WORKSHOP @ GALLERY F

Layering textiles with paint and stitch

Participants recently has the pleasure of engaging in this unique workshop to develop their skills in textile techniques. Layering fabric with paint, appliqué, glitz and stitch by machine and/or by hand was a focus of the workshop. Each group member ended the days activities with a small piece to frame, to cover a folder or to extend.
The main aim of the day was extension, enjoyment and play.
Beginners to the experienced applied their new skills under the guidance of 
Valarie Robinson; a trained teacher and artist who exhibits her textile art nationally and internationally.
The workshop was held at Gallery F, MIM, 31-33 Deakin Ave, Mildura on Saturday 25th March
